Member Update – from Club Captain Doug Claridge

Note from Neville - this is Doug's last update as Club Captain as Phil Barlow has taken over the role as elected at last nights AGM. A huge thanks to Doug for his 3+ years of updates which I know members enjoy and appreciate each week. Phil intends to continue these updates each week. Thanks again Doug!

Rain is forecast as showers on Saturday which may put some golfers off playing on Saturday. Please if you are going to withdraw from the tee sheet, please advise the Proshop prior to your tee off time. This weekend it is a multi- tee start from 11:00am, with the club rooms open for a breakfast at $15.00 from 9:30 am. Men are playing for the Bell Mugs – pairs multiple stableford and the ladies have a Stableford. Entry fee is for a standard Saturday men competition - $6.00 (including net eagles and twos).

The booking sheets for the Men’s club championships will be available to book your two rounds of qualifying (choose 7th, 14th or the 21st of August). Club Champs qualifying is two rounds to qualify.

The BCHP competition finals are next week.

Divots, sand buckets and the use of them has been a recurrent theme in the Woodlands Word over the last 12 months. With the growth in the club’s membership and increase in green fee players on the course the use or lack of sand buckets and repairing divots has been noticeable. This was highlighted to me when playing on Wednesday, when I watched 4 groups of young new members ignore the signage in respect to carrying buckets and continue onto the course. As members we should challenge those players/ members who are not carrying and using buckets on the course. It is a problem that all courses face and with the growth of players new to golf I wonder whether it is ignorance or lack of understanding in respect to use of buckets and repairing divots.

Volunteer Working Bee

Many thanks to the 17 members who turned up to a very chilly morning on Wednesday. Lots of gardens tidied and some more work done on the Hebe Corner. A clean up on No 2 rough area and more cones picked up. Great Job. Thanks everyone.

AGM 2021

Last night saw our 65th AGM take place with 67 in attendance. Thank you to those who came along to share in discussion on the Clubs financial results and future plans. Some highlights are.

            · The election of Lorraine Bamford and re-election of Gavin O’Hara to the Board

            · Greg Hedges re-elected as Club President

            · Phil Barlow elected to Club Captain

            · The re-appointment of BDO as our Review Auditors

            · Subs for the 2021/22 membership year from Sept 1st (as attached).

The Board and I appreciate the support shown and also the robust and healthy discussion held in some areas. The numerous ideas suggested by members will also be considered in due course.

Midweek Men's Group Invitation

A warm welcome is extended to join our Mid-Week Mens friendly group for organised play on Mondays and Thursdays.

We offer a range of competitions and tournaments throughout the season with prizes awarded for various grades each day.
A cuppa or drink and a friendly chat afterwards completes a pleasant day out even if the golf doesn’t go quite to plan.

Old Tools Wanted

With the new shed now complete, Colin and the team are looking to add a new tool board to the workshop in there.

If any members have tools they no longer require and wish to donate then they would be very grateful to receive them. Everything and anything will be considered and if not required Colin will advise the donor or is happy to dispose of them on behalf.
These can be dropped at the greenkeeping area at any time. If there’s no one there please leave by the main shed doors.

Many thanks.
